Thane, August 14, 2025 — A tragic fire broke out on the 22nd floor of the Lodha Amara high-rise residential complex in Kolshet, Thane, leaving one person dead and another hospitalised, officials confirmed. The blaze occurred around 6:40 p.m. in Wing 8 of the 28-storey tower near the Kolshet Air Force Station (The Times of India).
The victim, identified as 36-year-old Jaishri Thakre, lived on the 28th floor. Another resident, Rajendra Tiwari from the 25th floor, was rushed to hospital after experiencing breathlessness from smoke inhalation and is currently recovering
Disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi reported that elevators were shut off, forcing rescue personnel to climb stairs amid heavy smoke. Neighbours evacuated hundreds—including children, elderly residents, and pregnant women—through staircases while fire teams worked to quell the blaze, which was brought under control within an hour. Search efforts continued until 9 p.m. to ensure no further residents were trapped
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire originated from a short circuit, though the final cause will be confirmed following a municipal probe
Several residents and a former Shiv Sena corporator, speaking anonymously, criticised the delayed response, attributing it to the emergency water tank being empty during the incident
